Engine Conversion

The latest vehicle to visit our workshop is this unique Defender 110…The RNLI have had the Land Rover fitted with MATTRACKS – The All Terrain Rubber Track Conversion system.

Many of the major components on the vehicle have been stripped back and refurbished/replaced along with the track system which has been serviced, painted and re-assembled.
The Defender will be leaving the workshop tomorrow and will soon be in service at the West Kirby Lifeboat station.

Another challenge truck at the other end of the spectrum. A tired old range rover chassis that should have been put out to pasture has been re-invented as an entry level vehicle to compete in the AWDC Challenger 4×4 series.
Relatively simple modifications have been, a tubed front end and custom winch installation along with a rear mounted rad and modified roll cage.

We are currently in the process of refurbishing the RNLI fleet of Land Rover 110’s Each vehicle is stripped right down, the chassis are replaced with galvanised versions. The axle cases are hot zinc sprayed and powder coated and all other components checked for serviceability. Several improvements/enhancements have been included eg: moving the TD5 engine ECU from under the seat to a position in the roof headlining. EGR valves have been replaced with our custom made version and our bespoke galvanised winch bumpers and galvanised wheel rims are the finishing touches.

Here we have the infamous Richard Nicholson winch challenge truck which we’ve had a bit of input to.
Started out as immaculate 50,000 mile N reg 90 and is now 10 inches shorter at the front and 10 inches shorter at the back. Rear mounted radiator, through cab raised air intake and tweaked TDi engine.
The vehicle modifications and driver have proved themselves in the last series of the Howlin Wolf Challenge. We’ll keep you posted with this years results as and when he competes.
Richard’s not happy with just the one comp truck he also has an 80″ V8 EFi trialer and is the process of building a Whitbread 100″ buggy for the AWDC XTC challenge next year.
